Ask a seller why festive orders shipped late and they'll say 'the courier was slow'. Ask their packing bench and you'll hear the truth: orders quadrupled, packing hands stayed the same, and the queue grew by the day. October's shipping problem is mostly a staffing problem wearing a carrier's uniform.

The bench math

A decent packer completes 40–60 orders a day — pick, pack, label, manifest. At 4× festive volume, a 30-order/day seller needs 4–6× the hands for about six weeks. Temporary staff exist; the constraint is finding them in September instead of the second week of October.

The carrier side is real but smaller

Networks do strain — pickups slip, linehauls crowd, scans lag. But look at any seller's festive delay data honestly: the majority of 'carrier delays' were shipments that missed the manifest because the packing queue ran out of day.

What actually fixes it

Simplify before you staff: pre-pack top SKUs, pre-print labels in batches, standardize box sizes so packing is assembly not carpentry. Then staff for the queue you still can't clear.

The August checklist

Temp hiring, packaging stock, second carrier enabled, manifest discipline, returns-bench plan — the sellers with boring Augusts have delightful Octobers.

Pure Parcel is the shipping layer sellers build this on — every courier, one wallet, per-order rates.

The playbook

1

Do the bench math now

Orders/day ÷ 50 per packer = the hands you'll need.

2

Pre-pack your top 20 SKUs

A pre-packed shelf ships in 2 minutes, packed-to-order takes 8.

3

Standardize to 3 box sizes

Decision-free packing doubles bench speed.

4

Hire temps in September

October hiring competes with every seller who waited.
